Riches are not from abundance of worldly goods, but from a contented mind. Prophet Mohammed (Peace be upon him)
I am probably as materialistic as anybody else and enjoy the good life too. However one word occurred to me yesterday, abundance but its source was not green in color. It came to me at the end of a simple, satisfying day while having dinner with my family.
I felt such abundance thinking about greetings from those I am only beginning to know. Phone calls and messages from friends who want me to stick around for more years. Emails, from those who care but don’t bother expressing it often. Hugs and Kisses from my family. Sharing cakes and sweets with strangers amidst shy smiles. Gifts bought with the thought of making me smile.
I want to cherish this feeling of abundance and to remember it, to make a souvenir out of it, to visit it at those times when I might feel shortchanged or forgotten.
Thank you god and bless us all.

I would disagree and say that there is green abundance in nature!
Happy birthday. I remember feeling the same way at my 30th birthday party 2 years ago. The things people wrote and said moved me. I didn’t realize I had affected so many people. It's not an arrogant feeling, but a feeling that you count, you matter. Here's to you, Gulnaz.
BTW, liked the quote by Mohammed. Do you ever read Rumi?
One can know abudance in material poverty -- just knowing that there are people who care and celebrate that one exists.
"Riches are not from abundance of worldly goods, but from a contented mind." But still people run behind worldly things GS. Guess its a materialistic world. It sure is nice to be loved and appreciated by so many people on your b'day. It shows how loving and caring you are and you mean so much to many people.Cheers !!!
Life is always not abt materialistic,if it were then we wouldn be able to see so many smiles and so much satisfaction in lifes so easily:) well, more than anything the feeling of belonging, the feeling of being wanted and care and love always makes a day so special and lovely:)
When I was 30, I was swimming in the seas of materiality trying my best to make it to the finish line. Its taken me a good few years and a change of scenery to realise how pointless that was .You're lucky to realise that now. Thats why you're special I guess:). Its warms my heart.
Yes, there is so much non-materialistic abundance in life and we rarely get time out to notice and appreciate it. Thanks for pointing it out. This was an enlightening post.
